In Ayurveda, 6 types of CHARYA(REGIMEN) is mentioned :-

1)      Dincharya (Daily regimen)

2)      Ratricharya (Night regimen)

3)      Ritucharya (Seasonal regimen)

4)      Rajswala paricharya (Regimen for menstruation)

5)      Garbhini paricharya (Regimen during Pregnancy)

6)      Shishu Paricharya (Regimen for babies)

Our samhitas describes six ritu – hemant, Shishir, Vasant, Grishma, Varsha, Sharad.

There is separate regimen for each season.

This regimens are given for good healthy lifestyle.If one wants to live healthy, DINCHARYA,RITUCHARYA AND RATRICHARYA is must to follow.

During grishma ritu means summer season, the sunrays become powerful day by day and appear to be destructive. Hotness in atmosphere is increases and any living being can’t tolerate it.

People only wants coldness either by food or by facilities, we used to take cold drinks, candy, ice cream  and AC – without AC person can’t live peacefully during summers.

People refuses outdoor works, Despite of they go outside and spend more time in sunrays, there is more chances for dehydration, sunburn, sunstroke etc.

So an individual must follow grishma ritucharya.

Kapha decreases day by day and vata increases consequently, hence avoid use of hot, pungent and sour foods, heavy physical exercise and exposure to sunlight also avoid during this season.

Diet during summer:

Swadu (sweet)

Shital (cold)

Snighdha (unctuous food)

Laghu (light)

Ghee

Milk

Shali (variety of rice)

Mamsrasa (meat soup)

Water for drink during summer:

Very cold water kept in mud pot used for drinking.

Water being scanted with ushir and khaskhas grass and thereby receive yourself from heat of sun.

Indication for alcohol use:

Indication for limited use of wine during summers, if necessary take in very little quantity or diluted it with more quantity of water.

External applications:

Anointing the body with paste of sandal wood,

Wearing garlands,

Wearing of very light and thin dress,

By  fanning with large leaves med wet by water,

Syringes sprinkling cold water softly,

Spend day remaining inside the house cooled by water fountains.

At night:

Sleep on soft bed.

One should sleep on terrace, facing moonlight.

Having cold wind.

Contra indications during summer:

Vyayam (physical exercise)

Ushna (Hot in nature)

Maithun (sexual activity)

Atishosh (excessive thirst)
