In accordance to Ayurveda, Ushnodaka means warm water.

Reduction of water after boiling to 1/8th, 1/4th and 1/2 of its original quantity is called Ushnodaka.

Ayurveda emphasizes the importance of drinking warm water, as cold foods and beverages can weaken the digestive fire.

Consuming cold items slows down the digestive process by diluting digestive juices, making them less effective in performing their function. Ushnodaka increases digestive power, alleviates kaphavata and pitta.

It is good for throat and cleanses the urinary system. Warm water increasing flow of digestive juices resulting in proper digestion.

Ushnodaka which is administered in the night helps to relieve constipation and does vata anulomana and effective in ajeerna condition.

Ushnodaka (warm water) can be used throughout day but it should not be kept overnight, since its therapeutic properties expire.

So Ushnodaka is beneficial for digestion, metabolism and detoxification, but it also has specific contraindications based on individual conditions or prakriti, for example people with pitta prakriti or pitta disorders like hyper acidity, burning sensation should avoid excessive consumption of Ushnodaka as it may aggravate pitta further.
